Born in Terlizzi (BA) in 1996 and raised in Molfetta, Roberto de Pinto currently lives and works in Milan. After his degree in painting in Brera Academy of Fine Arts in 2021, de Pinto continued to explore his artistic language through a practice that blends tradition and innovation.

Summer heat and geographic motifs urge the characters depicted in de Pinto’s paintings to take off their tank tops, to remain in their underwear, to uncover their skin.

At the center of Roberto de Pinto’s practice is the Gaze, sometimes close-up, sometimes more distant but always directed at the Body. It is almost a self-portrait, a pictorial alter ego that becomes the spokesperson for a very precise identity to be explored: Mediterranean-ness, with all its baggage of sensuality, more precisely virile, is uninhibited and contaminated. Climate, territory, history, culture, emotions, and relationships – as shadows – are cast on each figure, continually generating new and different narratives.

Roberto de Pinto uses the encaustic technique, an ancient root practice that combines wax and pigments, recalling the paintings of Fayum, one of the inspirational source for the artist. This technique, creating a sense of depth, is capable of evoking a sensory and tactile dimension, constituting a fundamental part of the work. Wax, mixed with pigments and charcoal, becomes an erotic element of the skin and on canvas creates a coating that is similar to the surface of a frescoed wall, refined by time.

Selected exhibitions include: La Quadriennale Rome (2025); Palazzo Reale, Milan (2025); Fondazione Giuseppe Iannaccone, Milan (2024); Casa Testori, Milan (2024); La Triennale di Milano (2023); Museo Luigi Varoli, Ravenna (2023); Lucerna, Le Dictateur Studio, Milan (2023); Galerija Vžigalica, Lubiana (2022).
